Last Saturday, I attended a meeting of the presidents of lots of the local chambers of commerce from Wessex - with car parking being the major item on the agenda.

Across the towns, various issues such as parking in residential streets, and how car parking problems restrict business done in the town, came up time and again ... and there are local issues too.

This year, Wiltshire Council proposes to leave the parking regime as it is, but they're hoping for a major revamp next year.   See the following link for a futher writeup:

Input is being sought via the Chambers of Commerce - so please come along to our meeting on 13th April when it will be an agenda item.    If you're not a member, you'll be welcome too - our mandate is to look after our members first and foremost, but following on from that comes the interests of other businesses in the town as well.

There's a real opportunity here to make good inputs and help towards something that keeps the good in what we have, and corrects the bad!

I found it very interesting to go to Wiltshire Council's web site home page and see their "top tasks" - reasons that people most visit the site:

"Applying for a Council job" at the very top ... and "paying a parking fine" on the top tasks list too.
