From the Wiltshire Council website:

Quote
Wiltshire 2026

This is an open consultation and runs from 9am on Friday 30 October until 5pm on Thursday  31 December 2009.

Would you like to have a say in what happens in Wiltshire over the next 20 years?

If you have an opinion on how we can deliver homes, jobs and services to support a growing population, then we would like to hear from you.

See here

I phoned that number this afternoon ... and found the phone answered by Jim Sherry. He's the Wiltshire Council Officer who recommended that Countrywide should be refused permission to relocate 50 yards from their current premises as it would damage business in the town, and should instead be encouraged to move to Chippenham or Trowbridge.

From the furious reaction the Jim got from the Town Council, Melksham Without Parish Council, the Chamber of Commerce and others to his suggestions concerning Countrywide, it's clear that the case he puts is seriously out of step with the views of the Melksham's representatives.  Our poll on the front page of this site - asking everyone to say what THEY think - has recored 44 votes in favour of permission and just one against so far (perhaps Jim has voted  Grin ) - confirming that Melksham's representatives are truely speaking with the voice of the town.  I dread to think what other potentially flawed (IMHO) ideas from this person / team might get written into county plans if we let them pass 'on the nod', and I think we should put strong and co-ordinated views forward

Visit an exhibition near you to find out more and make your views known between 1.00pm and 7.00pm at the venues below.

26 November     Melksham        Mobile Unit within Town Centre (12-6pm)

I'm not sure exactly what 'Mobile Unit within Town Centre' means.  Market Square? Near the Post office? Central Car Park? Bath Road car park?  I will clarify if I can!

I went up to Chippenham to see their road show last night ... see

The officer I spoke with wasn't sure but suggested that the mobile display will be outside Peacock's on 26th.
