"A very high quality field" say the judges, who represented the local businesses, banks, schools, the Chamber of commerce, and Wiltshire Council, who sponsored the event throughout Wiltshire. We will tell you the results of the County-wide final in the next editions ... watch out for it through your letter box!

The judges, the judging, the result

Each of the entrants gave a 10 minute presentation about their business to the judges who then questioned them for a further 10 minutes.

The Judges were:

Caroline Lightfoot - Principal Economic Development Officer for Wiltshire Council.
Lisa Ellis - Local Business Owner with a background in advertising and marketing.
Rama Welaya - Commercial Manager, HSBC Bank.
Sean Malough - Head of Business Studies - The George Ward School, Melksham.
Colin Harrison - Chairman of Melksham Chamber of Commerce who has run his own design business for the last 22 years.

The businesses were judged on:

Business Idea/ Concept,
Qualifications/Skills to make a Success
Evidence of Market Research,
Financial plans/ Costing/ Forecasting
Long Term Sustainability/ Potential Employment Opportunities
Use of Prize Money
Gut Feel!

The judges felt that the standard of the entries was very high with each of the businesses excelling in a number of the judging categories. The final scores were very close but the business that finally rose to the top of the pack was Inspired Ladies Fashion which is run by 19 year old Miss Shae Gumm.

Shae wins £1000.00 for her business and, along with 16 other finalists from Wiltshire Towns, also goes forward to the regional final of the competition which will be held at The Civic Hall Trowbridge on the 12th November.

Melksham Chamber of Commerce would like to wish Shae and Inspired Ladies Fashion the very best of luck for the next round of the competition and to thank the judges for giving their time to the competition. Thank you to all the businesses for entering and the Melksham Chamber of Commerce wishes them all every success for the future.
